Sometimes, a great passion begins in a place where you least expect it. That’s how it was for me with inline skating, which initially played almost no role in my life.
But a random trip to the skatepark and discovering SkaMiDan changed everything – setting me on a journey that not only enriched my hobby but also my life.
The starting signal
As a child, inline skating was never really one of my interests.
I did have a pair of inline skates, which I used maybe once every three years, but for the most part, they just collected dust in the closet.
In January 2020, while I was out skating with my little cousin, we decided to make a quick stop at the skatepark.
I already knew the park, as I had been there several times before with my skateboard or scooter.
So, we headed over, and there we were, trying out small ramps on shaky legs. Honestly, I don’t know how or why, but suddenly, I found myself enjoying skating. From that day on, I started going to the park more and more often, gradually expanding the range of ramps I could skate on.
At some point, I realized that what I had been doing for months was actually an entire sport—and not only that, it even had a name: I discovered Aggressive Inline Skating.
My first aggressive inline skates
When I realized that my inline skates were about to fall apart, I got my first pair of aggressive inline skates for Easter. From that moment on, I could be found at the skatepark every single day.
Although I was the only blader among many scooter riders, skateboarders, and BMXers, I quickly learned tricks through videos on social media – where I also came across SkaMiDan for the first time.
At the park, friendships were formed, and soon I was spending every free moment skating – not with other bladers, but with people from different disciplines. Thanks to the pandemic and homeschooling, this meant skating every single day.
Every now and then, I did spot the occasional blader, which always felt like a highly extraordinary event to me.
SkaMiDan Team
In mid-2021, I was welcomed into my second family: the SkaMiDan Team.
Having reached out to Daniel about six months earlier, it felt like a dream come true. I was warmly welcomed and had the chance to meet the other team members.
It felt like months before I finally stopped grinning from ear to ear.
From that point on, I started meeting more and more bladers, and I even got to skate with them.
Skatehalle – Reithalle Ulm
In mid to late 2022, I skated at the Reithalle Ulm for the first time, where I would soon meet the people I now skate with once a week.
More and more friendships began to form, and I slowly started to realize that with my new "hobby," I hadn't just opened the door to countless new friendships, loads of fun, and pure joy for life – I had also become part of a huge, worldwide family called „Aggressive Inline Skating."
Winterclash – Eindhoven
A family where everyone's goal is to have fun and skate together. This realization was solidified when I attended Winterclash for the first time in 2023.
To describe the atmosphere in one sentence: A hall filled with people, and the extraordinary thing is – if you fall, at least 10 helping hands are immediately reaching out to you.
joy and gratitude
To this day, I’ve skated in various parks (though most often at the Reithalle Ulm, which is, without a doubt, the best skatepark for me), where I’ve had the chance to meet many amazing new people.
In conclusion, I want to express my gratitude to everyone I’ve had the privilege of meeting so far. Thank you, SkaMiDan, thank you, Ulm, and thank you to everyone. I’d love to list you all individually, but this text would go on forever if I did.
With that, I wrap up my story and look forward to everything that lies ahead and everyone I’ve yet to meet.
